The Shelter Avenue Residence was designed as a family home on Biscayne Bay. The two-story home features five bedrooms and six bathrooms along with the customary rooms and spaces associated with residential programming. Double-height spaces allow for natural light to penetrate deep into the home while generous overhangs seek to limit direct solar heat gain. In addition, sleek vertical fins also provide a layer of additional privacy and sun protection. Located on Palm Island in the middle of Biscayne Bay, the residence is geared for the subtropical lifestyle. A two-story, covered terrace is the interface between the interior spaces and the lushly landscaped garden and pool. The design invokes a vertical “fins” system, which provides an additional layer of privacy and sun protection for the home.
