Rock Hill

Unquestionably one of the firm’s more traditional projects, Rock Hill is the first of four vacation villas that will ultimately be built upon a hilltop site in the Far Bahamas. With a commanding 180-degree view of the Atlantic, this villa emphasizes the importance of the outdoor lifestyle by prioritizing the design and placement of its covered terrace. There are modest echoes of the Rock House at Rock Hill. The former’s eye catching steel roof, however, is replaced with the modesty of traditional Bahamian forms. Rather, it is the immersive second-floor terrace set atop a strong stone base that conceptually links the two designs. Inside, simple rooms and minimalistic furnishings redirect attention to the impressive landscape and waterscape of the Bahamas. Due to its relatively high elevation, hurricane storm surges pose no threat. The structure of the home, however, is outfitted with a galvanized steel moment-frame to improve the home’s performance in hurricane force winds.
